After School Explorers is Starting Soon!!
8 Preston County Schools will be hosting After School Explorers (ASE) again in this year! After School Explorers is a 21st Century Community Learning Center. Funding for this 21st Century Community Learning Center is provided wholly or in part by a grant from the United States Department of Education under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title IV Part B, with grant administration carried out by the West Virginia Department of Education.
The after school program will begin on Monday October 10. ASE meets Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Preston High School buses will take explorers home from: Aurora, Bruceton, TAEP, Rowlesburg, Fellowsville. Fellowsville will again have the Newburg shuttle. Parent pick-up sites include Kingwood Elementary, South Preston and West Preston at the Valley Campus. During ASE, students receive help completing their homework, recreation, academic enrichment and a healthy snack. First priority for enrollment is given to students who have an academic need through teacher referral. Parents who are interested in having their students participate in the program should send a note to your child’s teacher to pass on to the ASE staff. After School Explorers to host Lights on Event
Lights On Afterschool is on October 20! After School Explorers will be celebrating Lights On Afterschool event will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Preston High School in the Grand Concourse from 5-7 pm. Lights On is a national celebration promoting the importance of out-of-school programming. The event is designed for students and families in grades K-8–all are welcome. Funding for this 21st Century Community Learning Center is provided wholly or in part by a grant from the United States Department of Education under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title IV Part B, with grant administration carried out by the West Virginia Department of Education.
Events for the Lights On event include:
* “Power Your Future” mobile science programs from the Clay Center in Charleston, WV featuring ½ hour interactive shows at 5, 530, 6, and 630. Volunteers will be able to participate in the show at 7 and 730.
